You said: “However, MTS does have a website - but believe
it or not, it's a dot-com rather than a dot-co-dot-nz. So
much for preserving your national identity? “

This is a classic example of the need for the new
(approved) .maori.nz 2ndLevel Domain. There is no national
identity issues here by using a .com . It is just a sign of
our inadequate 2nd Level Domain structure for an official
bilingual country that is also multi cultural. Perhaps if
we already had .maori.nz MTS would have used it.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with your last correspondent
with the regard for a second level domain. This is again
another example of creatating a two class society where we
will become the Canada of the south pacific. The .co.nz
represents New Zealand, one nation for one people. Is Maori
TV a waste of money? Of course it is. It has cost millions
of dollars that this country can ill afford and for what?
Maori TV will fail without further investment from
government because of very low ratings it will attract.
However we will have governments that will pour money into
this station because one can not be seen to be a racist can
one. Of course that will be the cry if the money is stopped.
