Here are the 1998 Aardvark Net Industry Awards as voted by Aardvark's readers.

Because these awards have been chosen by the people who use the Net, I like to feel that they are an accurate representation of the public's taste and preferences. The "Total Nominations" refers to the total number of sites, products or services nominated for the award.

Netscape still clearly has the most vocal following amongst Aardvark readers, scoring 48% of the vote

IHUG's STARNET
Just to show how people appreciate faster connections, last year's winner was X2 56K technology - this year it's something that offers up to seven times the speed. With 22% of the votes cast, StarNet was a clear winner.

This was very close, scoring 12% of the votes, with Microsoft's FrontPage'98 coming in just 1 vote short of a tie.

ASB BANK FASTNET

Another closely fought category and just a 2-vote winning margin for FastNet with 8% of the vote.

RUSSELL BROWN
With 12% of the vote, runner-up last year, Russell wins this years Netizen award by a small margin over Tim & Nick Wood who tied with Dave Blyth for Second. This was a hotly contested category!

NZ HERALD
It's amazing what a facelift will do for a site and it seems that 16% of voters thought the NZ Herald site was most improved.

USR/3COM X2 MODEMS
For the second year in a row, USR have won Best Modem category, this year with almost the same share of the vote at 35%.

Another repeat winner with 24% of the vote. Linux put in a strong showing this year also with 11%..

NZ NETGUIDE MAGAZINE
This year, NZ NetGuide actually increased their lead to 76% of the votes cast and took the Best Net Publication award for the second time in a row.

MAURICE WILLIAMSON
Ousting the infamous Danny De Hek from his coveted position, Maurice Williamson is the Lemon Of The Year choice for 13% of those who voted in the 1998 Aardvark Awards.

Honourable mention goes to the Sky City web site with 10% of the hotly contested vote.
