Reader Comments on When A Free Domain Name Costs Too Much
From: Shonna Keogan (register.com) One major point that wasn't addressed in this article is that customers can upgrade to a register.com name at any time. Once they do that, they can get full functionality, registration rights and no advertising on their site. Namedemo essentially allows people to try out a domain name at no risk. Also, register.com is not in the business of reselling domain names at a profit. We register domain names for $35 a year and would have no intention of charging any more for a Namedemo upgrade, no matter how valuable the name became to the user. From: Kristofer Clayton There's another of these sites at www.namezero.com Same sort of thing.. they own the domain, and put a banner down the bottom of your page... I tried getting a domain thru it but it told me I couldn't have the domain name I wanted, even though I checked with whois to see if it was registered first (it wasn't).. so, theoretically they could also use the info you enter to register these domains to themselves before you do, so you can't get them anyway =/Now Have Your Say
