From: Simon Lyall For : The Editor (for publication) Subj: Radio New Zealand site Considering the awfulness of the www.rnz.co.nz site it should have been shut down years ago. The whole site (let alone the resume of the webmaster) is one of the worst I have ever seen. www.radionz.co.nz appears to be the offical site these days. It's a shame the internet broadcasting service has been shutdown though. I know one person who is interested in taking it over (completely non-commercial) although RNZ might have their own plans. From: digitaldunk For : Right Of Reply (for publication) Subj: job community Great idea on the job center. I don't know if you intend using it for IT back office type jobs only or for designers as well. As a 3d animator CGI artist its a very blank 404 world on the job sites. Many times i've searched the worlds and NZ big sites for '3d graphics' and nothing shows up. this doesn't mean the jobs aren't there. If you go to 3d community sites like 3dcafe.com you'll see quite a few positions and even those in NZ. I don't know why this is maybe its because these big sites don't cater for freelance workers. I think a great idea would be to have a section for freelance workers and employers making it more of a community thing. eg. TV company requires 3d artist to create a foot for TV Add this is more like a job bin and the cool thing is its non local thus allowing the a total vitural working enviroment. it also helps solo freelance workers as you don't have to advertise and shmooze the right people which seems to be the only way at the moment and requires living in the big centers. you could use this principle for IT management as well eg. XYZ company with 30 NT workstations needs administator for 10 hours per month for overall support. there are a lot of companys out there who have a clued up staff member running the day to day network but get stuck on the big stuff. I think this would put more money in the pockets of the workers with the skills instead of them having to rely on working for big network support companys in order to get work and having them suck half your cash and talent just because they are a branded big name and can spend the money (half your money)on advertising and an office. Isn't this the reason we work for ourselves already ? I think the only reson most people stay at a big company is because of the fear of not finding work on there own. You'll also find that most people, when they do decide to do it on there own, do so because they have go a few after hours contracts and begin to think. anyway this is staring to sound like one of your fine commentaries. I just think it would be great to have a job site for jobs not for employment. what do you think?
