From: David Farrar For : The Editor (for publication) Subj: Bush no longer using e-mail Actually as I understand it he is no longer using e-mail not because he is worried it is insecure but because under US law his private e-mails are subject to freedom of information laws and he doesn't want the Washington Post printing his e-mails verbatim. From: Peter Belt For : The Editor (for publication) Subj: Yippee! ex the HERALD: "Yippee was founded with the backing of several local investors who are understood to have spent at least $1 million on Yippee's website, which went live last May. Yippee hoped its catalogue of more than 4000 shareware programs, available for download by internet users at no charge, would create an attractive audience for online advertisers. However, revenue proved elusive" How many Aardvark readers are surprised? Zero? I can only think we do not get to earn some of that $1M because we're too gullible to tell people what they want to hear about the net, and tell them the uninspired truth instead. The number of times I have talked people out of the net as a revenue stream exceeds the number of projects I accepted. Incidentally, in a related story "Vendor e-biz sites fail to fire in NZ", what ever happened to 1) selecting an appropriate channel, 2) research, 3) allowing any new market enough time to GROW? It seems the majority of people who entered the e-commerce fray did so because they wanted a quick buck. As I buy out yet another failed venture (which has a sound commercial base but can not be made profitable by its owners) I share with you part of their communications: ...It seemed like the ideal vehicle for selling these sort of devices ... there has to be an easy buck in the internet somewhere. I registered the domain that night and we were off. Do you manage to make any money from it? I am interested to know if it actually works....Now Have Your Say
