Million $ Ideas
At last, the contents of Aardvark's "million-dollar ideas" notebook are revealed for all to see!

Macromedia's Flash is probably one of the most ineptly used and abused pieces of technology on the Web.

A whole generation of "look how clever we are" web designers have jumped on the Flash bandwagon and tried to turn the humble Internet into a kind of cartoon television.

Instead of clean, elegant, ergonomic, informative websites, these clowns seem to turn out audio-visual extravaganzas that take hours to load for everyone except the few thousands of Kiwis who have DSL or other broadband connections.

Need Cutting-Edge Copy?
As NZ's longest-running online commentator, I'm looking for extra syndication opportunities for this daily publication -- or I'm happy to write casual or regular material specifically to order for print or Net-based publications. If you're interested, drop me a line

Even the occasional "Click to Skip Intro" links do little except add an extra layer between the visitor and the information they've come to find.

In all my time on the Net I've probably only ever seen a handful of sites that use Flash in a manner that actually represents a positive addition to the website concerned.

However, in the wake of the September 11 attacks in the USA and subsequent US retaliation against the Taliban forces in Afghanistan, I believe that Flash has finally found its forte.

Have Your Say

I refer of course to the myriad of very funny Flash cartoons that have targeted Bin Laden and the Taliban.

The addresses of the websites carrying these cartoons have cluttered email servers across the globe and produced an immense amount of time-wasting traffic -- but just in case you missed them -- lighten-up comes early to Aardvark this week and here are a few of the best I've seen:

If you have similar (or better) links, please feel free to forward them and I'll publish the best.

Save The Aardvark Fund
Yes, I have had several donations to the Aardvark fund and I thank those who put their money where their mouse is :-)

If guilt is gnawing away inside you then there's still time to donate.

Just drop by and hand over your loot.
