SearchNZ is alive and doing well, we have a backlog in
indexing at the moment and are just bringing the engine up
to speed with over 20 million NZ urls in the system.
Submissions are being backlogged while we complete this.
SearchNZ should be back to normal within a few weeks.

Subj: Geography vs Application
If google records every site that exists in NZ and these
are displayed upon making a search for sites in NZ, why
have another search engine? Where google lives is
irrelevant. As all Net citizens will know, location isn't
relevant, it's the usefulness of the information.
I think NZ is experiencing the same phenomenon that is
happening elsewhere in the world:why have more than one
site for the same purpose? Google isn't as feature rich as
some NZ search sites but it hasn't been beaten on speed and
accuracy (the latter point is an opinion). My information
needs change all the time. At times, searchnz.co.nz beats
google for user friendliness when it comes to NZ needs. At
times, google and searchnz.co.nz happen to be useful
together. Info from Canada often helps with a task at home.
I often find what I want using
http://pinpost.tomshardware.com/. Peer to peer
announcements, etc.
Also, in terms of searching for information, info in other
parts of the world can be applicable to NZ. In some cases,
foreign information is better than that locally made.

Subj: searching for NZ sites
for quite some time i have found that the best way to
search for NZ specific sites is to simply use google
with '.co.nz' (without the quotes) added as a search term.
the results are far better than trying to use one of the
local search engines.

Subj: NZ Explorer
You seem to have missed NZ Explorer when writing your
column. NZ Explorer is a very fast search engine; I guess
you could call it the New Zealand equivalent of Google.
I'm surprised you didn't mention it as I feel it is a very
good search engine, in some aspects much better than the
popular searchnz.co.nz.
It's address is nzexplorer.co.nz.
And no, I don't work for them nor have any affiliation with
them. Just keeping your column complete :-)

search engines (more to the free local search engines) And
I know there are a few out there free aswell as paid.
I have e-mail accessnz about the 2228 unprocessed

About search nz
I am not too sure about them they must be having problems
with their script's or they have just processed a lot of
sites! On the other hand they may have not updated their
site links yet?
