Subj: Power generation - cycles

To solve the electricity shortage, all PCs would have to
have an attachment from the power supply so that they could
be run from a pedalling apparatus under the desk.

We've all seen rather fit, slightly crazy-looking blokes,
pedalling madly beside TV's or washing-machines out in the
sticks, haven't we?

These would be government subsidised - since it is in their
interests to have a fitter (and healthier) population.

Subj: TidePower.

The problem with generating power from the tide is that the
tides in New Zealand aren't particularly large. We are
talking in the magnitude of 1 or 2 metres in most parts of
the country.

This "pipeline between the two harbours" in Auckalnd would
only ever have a 'head' of 1-2 metres, just enough to run a
particularly small turbine.

Valiant Idea to be sure, but I don't see it working.
Wind is probably the most likely new 'renweable' energy
resource soming our way soon.

Subj: Tidal power generation

Interesting idea, but would the environmental impact not be
a tad too high? Imagine all those poor fish getting
their "packets filtered" by the turbines every time they
enter / leave the area.

Could reduce the risk of sharks in such areas though. Put
sharp edges on the turbines, and we have not more Jaws.
