Subj: Screensavers and lightbulbs

To think that someone once referred to the Television
as "infintely variable wallpaper". I think the computer
screen has stolen that accolade!

But seriously folks, forgo the pretty slideshows and such
and set your monitors to switch off after a reasonable time.

Regarding the lightbulbs - I purchased one about 2 years
ago to put in a socket we used to leave on all night - to
light up stairs and access to toilets during the night for
young children (and bleary-eyed adults). We moved out of
that house in January and that bulb was still going
strong. OTOH, I lost count of the number of incandescents
we replaced in the same part of the house.

The bulb I bought was a Philips one, so perhaps the quality
brand counts for something.

Subj: Compact Flourescent Light Bulbs

CFLs are indeed a better way to go than incandescent light
bulbs, but remember where to put them. Its best to consider
the "in the loo" philosophy followed by in the hallway and
then the light outside thats left on all night.

Subj: power saving

I have a philips-branded energy saver lightbulb in my room,
rated at 20 watts or 100-watt equivalent. I'd have to say
that it seems much brighter than the old 100watt bulbs,
both from comments of other people, and the fact it hurts
my eyes when I look directly at it.

Some people may not like the idea that it takes a few
moments for them to warm up, but it's a useful 'feature'
for when someone turns the light on in the middle of the
night :)
...
I used to run screen savers and the like in the past, but
you quickly become bored of even the flashest ones (that
say respond to sound picked up by a microphone). I've
resorted to physically turning the monitor off everytime I
leave my seat, with screensavers and auto-power-off
disabled because I watch dvds.

Subj: More Power for Less $ Good For NZ

The Power Industry Has Gone MAD Again.
Broken down machinery.
Very few back stops.
No Netural Shutdown Nuclear power stations on line.
I'm talking about modern safe reactors here but very
expensive.

The 1 in 100 drought year is back, the 1 in 50 drought year
is back,the 1 in 20 drought year is back,the one in 10
drought year is back also.

You would have to turn off all your household lights 24/7
and would not make a 5% saving.

If you feel you need to save, turn off your electric stove
and pull the main fuses out till next year.
Do the same with your drier, hot water cylinder, aircondition
units,all electric motors etc.

Buy resturant food, junk food, beer, wine and plenty of LPG
(gas)and enjoy the rest of this year taking time out with
friends and family.

I will not be saving any power at all, untill I see the
people who designed this problem removed from their high
paid jobs.They have no skills.

Let them suffer without power first.
Turn off all their power and lets see how they crumble.
Let them manage the savings first, each one of them
including all New Zealand MPs.

We have more power companys, more generator companys, more
transmission companys,more management,more directors,more
CEOs,more manage directors, more charges and service
costs,etc,etc,etc.
They all consume the purse daily.
Of course there is nothing left to invest back into plant
and machinery.Thats how this economy works.

Adds on television, adds on the radio, adds on bill
boards,full page adds in newspapers,etc,etc,etc.
Even the share holders pictures have been displayed in the
media.

Well the party is over and consumers have had enough of
this dance in all areas accross the board.
The whole business has become a stink.
Yes,shit all over the place.
