Subj: Electronics in cars

You dont even have to go that advanced. Look at
centralised door locks. Electric windows. Your car shorts
out in flood, how you going to open the windows. You
know, this is precisly why I will not buy or drive a modern
car. Give me points, plugs and a condensor everytime.
Becuase I do not want my life dependant on wether or not a
computer works in my car.

Mate of mine has a car with centralised door locking. Left
the car for a week. Clock radio takes charge for the
station presets. Alarm working. After one week, flat
battery. Had to climb in through the tailgate to unlock
the car door as there was no power in the battery to unlock
the centralised door locks at the turn of the key.

But i suppose it will take a death before anything is done
to fix these little things

Subj: Oh for that kind of profit margin

The story on Microsoft's Xbox division losing money, form
the link you provided, was interesting for the headline
subject but even more interesting were the figures provided
in the final 3 paragraphs of the article.

That the division for server software for managing computer
networks showed a pofit margin of 20% was quite respectable
for any business. That the desktop software division,
including the Windows operating system, and information
worker segment that includes the Office suite showed profit
margins of around 500% seems indicative simply of outright
price gouging on a disgraceful level.

And MS wonder why many customers are investigating
alternative open source software options?
