Subj: Roaming for Prepays

More interesting is that I bought a Prepay four years ago,
and moved to an account three years ago. Since then the SIM
card has been used my my cousin, so it's always charged.

He asked for roaming prepay, they said "fine, fill this
form and give us your credit card details".

Next thing that happens is a phone call from Vodafone
saying "Look we can only allow roaming if you approve a
charge deposit of NZ$ 250".

Needless to say he said no thanks, and Vodafone didn't get
the deposit, neither the calls he would be placing from
overseas.

Subj: Its called competition...

Its called competition...

UK has more than 2 mobile networks, and therefore there is
far more competition between the networksand they get a far
better deal. It is also helped with their larger
population, so they can share the cost. Really there is
very little room for movement with NZs mobile network with
prices. Personally I don't know how anyone in NZ (unless
you are earning a really good wage) can really afford to
use a mobile as their main phone. I only use mine for pure
emergencies, and SMS.

Does your UK sim card work in NZ by any chance?

The US refer to NZers as 'Mexicans with Mobiles', which is
kind of true.

Subj: UK Sim card roaming

Good to hear about the UK Sim card working in Thailand - can
you tell me which card it was and where I can get one in UK?

Subj: Vodafone site

I've tried to use the Vodafone site for various things and
have ALWAYS had technical problems with it.
Almost as though they don't want it to work.
I did recieve some follow-up from an email I sent but
basically the site was still broken.

Subj: Vodafone Roaming

Yesterday I walked into Vodafone to enable roaming on my
PrePay as I have done on my previous trips to Aussie. And I
was informed that as of last week, there is no longer any
need to enable roaming to certain countries. Australia
happens to be one of them.
Since I was in a rush (running late for work as usual) I
didn't ask which other countries this applied to. But it
seems that they may be starting to go the way of the UK cell
providers.
This can only be a good thing.
Hopefully I wont get charged as heavily this time for
incoming calls.

Subj: Pre-pay rip off

Hello

Vodafone has a nasty habit of ripping off customers, and
the 'intensity' of ripoff gets larger as the market size
they are in get smaller.

Here in Fiji, pre-pay rates peak hours are a massive F$1.98
per minute, which is almost the same in NZD.

OF course, here they are protected by a lame monopoly
license until 2005.
