From: Eelko Van der Does For : The Editor (for publication) Subj: IT recruitment agencies IT recruitment agencies get a lot of money for doing bugger all. From personal experience I can honestly say that I have found more jobs myself when they have been telling me I am either over or under qualified or simply wrong for the job. I hate dealing with IT recuitment agencies and i will tell you why. Who do they work for? I mean, when I go on there, I feel they are working for me. I am their customer and I require them to find me work, that is what they are there for. The last time I went in was on a day off work. I decided not to bother putting on a suit and just showed up. I swear to god that the term "You will have to wear more suitable clothing at this job" came up about 6 times. For gods sake, now I have to dress up just to impress some little weener (or weeneress) who looks down their nose at me because my MSCE is out of date? The reason they wont use your website to advertise is because of several reasons: 1. They allready have to update about 8 sites everytime they have a job to advertise. 2. No one else is advertising there so they dont have to. Personally, I would love to see a job site that does not involve or even allow IT recruitment agencies... I know that most of my IT collegues hate dealing with agencies, and I know that employers hate dealing with agencies... why is everyone dealing with them? I like the example that Geekfinder is setting (http://www.geekfinder.com/). No it recruitment agencies involved. From: Stan For : The Editor (for publication) Subj: IT Recruitment Agencies I take exception to Eelko's comments about IT Recruitment Agencies. I have had the pleasure of dealing with most of all the major agencies in Auckland where I am based. I have nothing but praises for their professionalism and dedications. I find it extremely incredible that someone could have so little respect for the very agent who is supposed to 'as he said' working to seek a good position for him. If that was his attitude towards me and I am his agent I can personally say I wouldn't put a single second into his case at all. This sort of mentality underminds the very social fabrics of New Zealand, that you are always expecting something but not willing to put something back into the partnership. The agents I used (as a prospective employee) have always been excellent providing candidates of top notch. Their first task would be to weed out candidates not just from skills but also by their character. I would not expect them to send to me a candidate such as Eelko. As far as website goes, there are so many out there, each agent have their own, every newpaper, radio station, magazine and so on are creating jobsites. Personally I have only found two which are always updated and I ignore the rest. And I can understand why the agents would not want to take up another job website. Now Have Your Say
