Subj: Film and Television Grant Scheme

Dear Aardvark

You ask why the film industry needs a specific grant scheme
to target local production.

The screen industry is a highly mobile, internationalised
and project based industry. Most countries offer some form
of incentive to attract production, and New Zealand needs
to ensure we are not disadvantaging our industry.

More international projects here will build local expertise
and ensure we retain the infrastructure we have now.

Any other industry which can make the same arguments can
come and talk to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, and they
often do.

A grants scheme was chosen as this makes the criteria more
transparent, easy to calculate and identify.
