It's time for the first lighten-up section of the new year but I'm perilously low on material so start trawling your bookmarks for those stupid, funny, outrageous or just plain "interesting" sites you'd like to share with the rest of the world.

Polygamy Porter. This beer is specially brewed for Utahans and takes into account their somewhat unorthodox attitude to marriage.

If you're really lost for something to do, check out these singing horses. Note that once the Flash file has loaded, you have to click on the horses to make them sing -- but I'm sure you'd have figured that out for yourselves right?

Here's a site from across the ditch which documents the cause of a strange hissing noise then crackle and bang that came from some guy's PC. Eeew!

More on The New Pay-TV Service
My column earlier this week has stimulated more discussion on the arrival of a new NZ-operated pay-tv service.

It looks like we might not have to wait too much longer for some real competition in this field -- thank goodness!

    LCD Monitors, Good or Bad?
Have you noticed how commonplace the LCD flat-panel monitor has become?

Not only are they becoming widespread in business, where desk/counter-space is a valuable commodity, they're also finding their way into an increasing number of homes.

The only LCD display I have is the one on my portable and, while it's very nice and crisp, I still prefer my 17" Trinitron CRT based conventional monitor for day-to-day use.

I also doubt that I could get by with anything less than the 1280x1024 resolution I've become so accustomed to and most affordable LCD displays seem to be limited to about 1024x762.

And will LCD be eclipsed by organic light emitting displays (OLEDs) sometime in the near future?

It seems that hard-core gamers aren't that impressed by LCD displays due to their relatively slow response time and inability to handle resolutions that don't exactly match (or are a sub-multiple of) their native resolution.

    But what's your preference?

I doubt I'm the only one interested in some feedback from those who have already switched to LCD displays. What are the actual benefits, drawbacks, etc., and are you happy now that you've made the change?

    Yes, You Can Donate
Although the very kind folks at iHug continue to generously sponsor the publication of Aardvark, the bills still exceed the income by a fairly significant amount. It is with this in mind therefore that I'm once again soliciting donations from anyone who feels they're getting some value from this daily column and news index. I've gone the PayPal way of accepting donations because the time involved in processing a bunch of little credit-card billings sometimes exceeds the monetary value they represent. Just click on the button to donate whatever you can afford. NOTE: PayPal bills in US dollars so don't accidentally donate twice what you were intending :-)
