It seems that those who, despite Aardvark's warnings, were stupid enough to get involved in the SkyBiz pyramid scheme some five years ago, may just recoup some of their losses.

Both the NZ Herald and Stuff are reporting that "victims" of this scam should register their claims with a website erected for that purpose.

And you thought that major Net-scams such as the pitches of those claiming to be Mrs Miriam Abachi or otherwise wishing to disburse MILLIONS OF US DOLLARS was something new right?

While you're here, why not visit the Aardvark Hall of Shame and perhaps make your own nomination.

While on the subject of Net history, I see that Rupert Murdoch has finally conceded that news on the Net may well end up challenging his giant empire of broadcast and print media.

It's a shame that NZ's leading light in the area of Net-based news distribution (7am.com) dropped the ball shortly after the dot-com bust of 2000. If they'd listened to good advice (;-) then I strongly suspect that right now they'd be right where Murdoch wants to be.

Sometimes it's incredibly frustrating watching all this idiocy going on before your very eyes - but that's what makes the Net industry so interesting and exciting I guess.

Despite the morons out there, there are still truckloads of net-based opportunities for those willing to take a punt and I'd wager that there are still a lot of "big things" to come in the online world.

My little notebook of "million dollar ideas" continues to swell - although quite a few of the earlier ones have been struck off because others have also thought of them and, in most cases, made good money from them.

Once my government-forced hiatus from entrepreneurial activities is over, I have a number of projects I plan to lean into with much vigor. I'm sure that at least a couple of these will once again give NZ a significant presence on the Net - but until then my lips are sealed :-)

What I'd like to see however, is more innovation and creativity from Kiwis on the Net.

Maybe there *are* NZers pushing the boundaries and doing incredible things already. If so, perhaps those in the know can illuminate the rest of us.

What's the most innovative, clever or successful technology product/service currently being developed or sold by a Kiwi entrepreneur?

Just for the record, one of the most impressive feats of entrepreneurialism I've seen for quite some time is SaveToby.com.

However, I'm not sure that this site was the first of its kind -- check out this one (BEWARE: pop-up ads!) -- it would appear he's already been eaten.

Lighten Up
Come on, where are all the good links to lighten-up material?

Data storage has come a along way in recent years and now they're promising us new vertical recording techniques that will provide terabytes of storage on a single drive. But what about this for something different?

If you're not prepared to save poor old Toby then obviously you believe in cruelty to animals so this is the game for you. :-)
