It's been a long week, and right now I've got a TV crew here filming my jets
and other activities for a programme that will screen on The Discovery Channel
sometime next year.
As a result of this, things have been pretty chaotic around here and I don't
always know whether I'm coming or going -- so please excuse the fragmented nature and
content of today's column.
There was an interesting article
on the New Scientist website that I linked
to yesterday -- I wonder how many of you noticed an important observation
contained therein?

The sentence that caught my eye was " The ice caps may be retreating due to a long-term warming of the planet, researchers suggest".
Hmmm... so Mars is also undergoing global warming - yet there aren't millions
of cars, fossil-fuel burning power stations, farting cows, or any of the other
things we're blaming for our global warming here on earth.
Could it be that one of the key contributors to our global warming woes is
an increase in the heat output of the sun? Could this increased output
be affecting, not just the earth, but also the other planets in our solar system?
Something to think about perhaps?
Here's another worrying announcement.
It would appear that the RIAA and MPAA want to have a goodly amount of control over
how the upcoming Internet2 network is used.
Of course they (like anyone else) have every right to sit on the Internet 2 consortium
but I do hope that they're not able to lobby for excessive control over the
decision-making process. I think we need to ensure that content creators do
not have undue control of the delivery medium or all sorts of problems will occur.
Finally, if you were thinking of getting into blogging then check out
this story
running on the Wired.com site today.
It would appear that a good blogger should be pulling down as much as US$10K
per month for their efforts.
Of course to get that sort of money you have to be publishing something rather
special to a significant-sized audience -- although Aardvark falls into the
quoted "high four- to five-figure daily visitor figures" so maybe I will make
my fortune here (one day :-).
But for now it's back to the grind and dealing with the increasingly regular
stream of TV crews that seem to find what I'm doing to be at least modestly
interesting.
